1. What's New?

 Printer Friendly Version

1.1 Employer Bulletin February 2025

You are advised to read the Employer Bulletin-February 2025  which is available from the GOV.UK website

1.2 P60 Stationery

Employers continue to be required to supply all employees with a P60 if they are still in your employment at the end of each tax year.

axis payroll  prints the P60 documents to a PDF file from where the documents can then be printed on plain A4 paper and issued to your employees.

Note: for axis payroll 2020, 2022 and 2024 users or those that have the Paperless Payroll Foundation feature, running Create P60 Atttachments will create an axis payroll password protected pdf version of the P60 on the employee record.

Additionally, for axis payroll systems with the People HR Interface feature or the eDoc Deposit Interface feature, P60's can be delivered to your employees via their People HR or eDoc Deposit account. These are password protected and an additional password protected copy is stored in the attachments tab of the employee record in axis payroll.

1.3 Employment Allowance from 6th April 2025

The annual Employment Allowance for eligible businesses increases to £10,500 for tax year 2025-2026.

Up until tax year ending 5th April 2025, eligibility to claim Employment Allowance was restricted to employers with National Insurance contributions bills of less than £100,000 in the previous tax year.  From 6th April 2025 the £100,000 threshold is removed meaning more eligibile businesses will be able to claim.

See Employment Allowance in the 'The New Year' section of this user guide for instructions on how to claim Employment Allowance in axis payroll.

1.4 Employers National Insurance changes

From 6th April 2025 the employer Secondary Class 1 National Insurance contributions rate will increase to 15% from 13.8%.

The Secondary Threshold is decreasing from £9,100 to £5,000 per year. This is the point at which employers start to pay employer National Insurance contributions on an employee’s salary.

axis payroll software releases downloaded on or after 12th March 2025 will incorporate the new rates and threshold.

1.5 Changes to Scottish Income Tax

The Scottish Government have announced changes to Scottish Income Tax, which will take place from 6 April 2025.

For further details on those changes, please refer to the Scottish Income Tax 2025 to 2026 factsheet published by the Scottish Government.

axis payroll software releases downloaded on or after 12th March 2025 will incorporate the new rates and threshold.

1.6 Statutory Neonatal Care Leave and Pay

A new statutory entitlement to Neonatal Care Leave and Pay is introduced from 6th April 2025. This will provide employed parents whose babies are admitted to neonatal care with a day-one employment right to take up to 12 weeks off work, depending on the length of time their baby is in neonatal care. Eligible parents will also be entitled to up to 12 weeks of statutory pay.

axis payroll has been updated for these changes.

Further information may be found in the February 2025 Issue of the Employer Bulletin

1.7 Rates and Thresholds for Employers

The HMRC published rates and thresholds for employers 2025-2026 can be found at Rates and Thresholds for Employers 2025 to 2026

1.8 Payrolling Benefits in Kind (BiKs)

In January 2024 the government announced that from 6 April 2026 employers will be required to report and pay Income Tax and Class 1A NICs on most BiKs in real-time on the Full Payment Submission.

axis payroll supports the payrolling of Benefits in Kind and would encourage businesses to voluntarily register to payroll these benefits through the payroll from 6th April 2025. This must be done using the online payrolling benefits and expenses service before 5 April 2025 so your employee’s tax code is updated in time.

For further information on how to process Benefits in Kind in axis payroll please see our online documentation

1.9 Archiving of employee record attachments

As part of routine maintenance carried out during the scheduled processes that typically run automatically overnight, employee record attachments will be archived after 30 days. Archiving involves storing these attachments in zip files thus optimising disk space.

Archived attachments are still accessible as usual when accessing an employee record in axis payroll.
