Strong Customer Authentication for Online Card Payments

Strong Customer Authentication comes into force on 14th September 2019 and will change the way in which almost everyone pays for goods and services online.

In 2018, the UK Government passed into legislation the EU Directive known as PSD2 (Payment Service Directive 2). This directive aims to provide better protection for consumers paying online whilst also paving the way for new developments in making online and mobile payments.

As part of this legislation, banks will be required to strengthen the ways in which they verify that online payments are legitimate and this will have an effect on the checkout process for every website that accepts card payments.

To explain in more detail what these changes are, and what the impact will be on eCommerce websites, we have published an article covering the developments.
